Tour to Aveiro and Costa Nova
Aveiro, often called “the Venice of Portugal,” is a charming city that has managed to preserve its authentic soul. Its colorful Art Nouveau architecture, gentle canals, small bridges, and cozy cafés come together to create a rare balance of beauty, simplicity, and calm.
We’ll begin with a leisurely walk through the narrow streets and alleys, taking in the vibrant azulejo tiles and the city’s relaxed rhythm. Then we’ll head to the marina, where we’ll board a traditional Moliceiro boat for a tranquil cruise through the canals. The 30–45 minute ride offers a different perspective of Aveiro – one of reflections, colors, and quiet movement.
Next, we’ll visit the historic salt pans of Aveiro, where we’ll learn about the traditional process of salt harvesting, hear stories of the region’s heritage, and walk among the salt pools to see the ancient techniques still in use today. If we want, we could also participate in an “Ovos Moles” workshop.
After the visit, we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch in one of the local restaurants at the “Fish Square,” a lively spot where time seems to slow down and flavors take the lead.
We’ll end the day in Costa Nova, a picturesque fishing village on the Atlantic coast, famous for its colorful striped houses and laid-back seaside charm. We’ll stroll through the village, meet its friendly locals, and sit by the ocean with a glass of wine as the waves roll in.
On our way back, we’ll make a short stop at an 18th-century chapel built on a massive rock overlooking the sea – a serene and beautiful way to close the day.
